City Camp Twelve February 28 & March 1, 1997
Advanced Martial Artists, Advanced TrainingCity Camp Twelve Gathers Together Another Stellar Group of Teachers
Join us for another action-packed weekend of advanced training in the
martial arts. The City Camp format, a diverse range of classes for brown
belt-and-above participants taught by experienced instructors, allows
advanced-level martial artists the opportunity to get together and explore
their differences and celebrate their common ideas. Another benefit for
participants is networking in the martial arts community, allowing a forum for
sharing issues and problem-solving with the insight of other instructors from
different schools.
The October City Camp Eleven was a total blast with Soke Tim Delgman teaching a wonderful series of pressure point and joint-locking techniques. Everyone learned the jujitsu salute (shaking out our hands). Jeff Dix woke us up and got us excited in his power kicking class, and lots more fun followed with a class in ne waza, or judo grappling, taught by Melinda Marquez. Aikido fourth dan Kayla Feder followed with a wonderful knife self-defense class, and we ended with a class in back care, taught by Kathy Yeh. We thought the last class would be a breeze, but most of us were surprised at the challenging stretches and crunches.
The team of instructors for City Camp Twelve promises to make this one of the best camps yet! Held in the Finnish Brotherhood Hall in Berkeley, Friday's class, Ground Fighting, will be taught by Shifu Alex Feng, and will utilize his extensive training in judo, jujitsu, and Wu Chien Pai. Saturday morning we'll go to the Berkeley Marina where Debbie Leung continues her instruction on Shaolin staff. Afterwards, we'll return to Finn Hall where Aikido expert Jay Callender offers a great class in counter throws. Deb Cullings returns from New York to teach another exciting fighting class, and PAWMA Martial Artist of the Year, Lloyda French, wraps up camp with a class on integrating techniques learned into our own systems, with a little warm down thrown in for good measure.
